How do I reverse payments?
If you mistakenly send money to the wrong person, we can try a few things to help recover your funds. Before sending any payment, please double-check all details to ensure your payment goes to the correct person.
Option 1 (Recommended)
Please reach out to the recipient and ask them to send the payment back to you. You can send them to your Onafriq Business link to return the funds, or you can create a collection prompt for their phone number.
Option 2
If you have been unsuccessful with option 1, then you may reach out to Onafriq via email ([email protected]) or chat. On occasion, we can help recover your funds, but there are no guarantees.
Please provide us with:
The date and time of the payment
The payment amount
Recipient details (phone number and names)
Reason for the reversal
We will pass along your request to the mobile money provider or the banking partner to see if they can send the funds back to you.
Important notes
The sooner you take action, the more likely you are to get your funds back.
If the money is already withdrawn from the recipient's account, then it is unlikely that the provider will be able to retrieve the funds.
The reversal requests depend on the network or bank's responsiveness. We will do what we can to follow up with them but the time it takes to receive feedback will vary by provider.
